Why do I need an approval chain?
An approval chain makes requests, like leave requests, go through several people in a certain (sequential) order for approval. If anyone in the chain doesn’t approve the request, it will be rejected, and it won’t move to the next person.
Create an approval chain
From the sidebar, click on Org. Hierarchy> Approval Chains. You'll see a list of the approval chains that are already on your company account.
Click on Create an approval chain. The approval chain data page will show up and it has several data fields (click the button below to learn more about them).
Approval Chain Data
Request Types
In this field you can pick the types of requests this chain will apply to. Check Request Types to know more about the different request types.
Example: Let's say leave requests in the company have to go through an approval chain before they get approved. In this case, it's a good idea to make an approval chain for leave requests by picking Personal Leave Request, Excused Leave Request, Unpaid Leave Request as the values for this field.
Approvers Chain
In this field, you can set who has to approve the request for it to be approved and also set their order in the chain. You can set a person's role like team manager, department manager, or workplace manager, or you could pick a specific person from the employees list who has supervisor or admin permissions.
Example: Let's say leave requests have to go through the direct team manager of the requester, then the HR department manager before approval. Let's say the HR department manager in the company is called "Osama Ali", then it's right to have the team manager as the first person in the chain and "Osama Ali" as the second, as shown in the image below:
